The Power in Being Fragile

The future is an unknown variable, but your nature is known through the experiences of your past.
There is one absolute of this life, the universal truth that every living thing must die. What does the word must mean in that statement? Every living thing must die? It sounds morbid, and even immoral in a sense. Nevertheless, all living things, despite their varying contributions of love, hate, violence or peace, are bound by the curse of death. Despite this shared fate, I believe the energy that animates the living is neither good or evil. Our free will empowers us to shape and harnesses that spark we're infused with and aim our influences towards the heights or depths of the life path we choose.

My book, Eyes of Shadow: Myth of Oblivion, stares down the concepts of existence and death. Edward, our protagonist in the book, comes face to face with the cold touch of the grim reaper after the loss of his sister. During his turbulent psychological quest, he challenges his own beliefs in an effort to make sense of his loss. His sister's life was just getting started as she began her journey as a young new mother. However, death is the one phenomenon that goes unchecked, leaving physical and mental devastation in its wake wherever it manifests. The reaper came, regardless of the unrealized life goals Edward's sister had set for herself.  Edward's world is thrown into chaos. But through the entropy of his universe, a single point of light shines down the dark path. However, getting to this illumination requires trekking through the grayness of the confusion, pain and anguish that death has gifted him.

 Here is a small excerpt from my manuscript of Eyes of Shadow: Myth of Oblivion. It represents Edward's journal entry as he yearns for relief from his pain.

 "There is nothing beautiful about death. It comes for us all, patiently stalking each breath taken. Inconsiderate of the bonds created within this world, it consumes us all piece by piece, never relenting. I saw death take my sister. It then turned to look at me to say that it would be back for me and everyone else I loved. I stared back and opened my arms for its embrace." Eyes of Shadow: Myth of Oblivion 

 Eyes of Shadow: Myth of Oblivion is set to release in the winter of 2018!

The Significance of Being Insignificant

The world is but a fragment sliced from the celestial womb of creation and cast to ellipse the heavens Last year I was spring cleaning in my attic and found treasure! It was a shoe box bound by a dusty, red off color string of yarn. It had been at least several years since I arranged the attic so I honestly did not have a clue as to what was in this slightly heavy box I found. When I opened it, I peered at a book stuffed with folded loose papers. They were my old writings from middle school all the way through college. I had reduced the amount of time I wrote creatively to only once or twice every year or so since I had left college.
